A TEENAGER from the Wrexham area has been locked up after he twice attacked his partner while subject to a suspended prison sentence for assaulting her previously.

Kieran Christopher Smith, 18, of Penyllyn, Gwersyllt, received a total of 135 days in youth custody.

Flintshire Magistrates Court was told yesterday that during the attack he poured lager over his victim.

But Smith told police he would not waste his lager in such a way.

He pleaded guilty on the basis he had flicked some of the dregs over her but he denied pouring the drink over her as alleged.

Smith also denied prosecution claims that he had punched her, but magistrates said it would make little difference to sentencing in view of the fact he was already subject to a suspended sentence for a previous assault on his partner, Leanne Jones.

He received 45 days for the two latest assaults and a criminal damage charge, which he admitted, and the 90 day suspended sentence was activated consecutively.

The court heard how they had been in a relation for about five or six months.

On Sunday evening Smith returned home from work. She took the view he had been drinking and they started to argue.

He kicked her foot which she was on a recliner chair, the argued continued outside, a neighbour intervened and Smith then confronted the neighbour, it was alleged.

Police attended and he was asked to leave the property and advised not to return.

But he went back, was said to have barged his way in and she pushed his arm away when he put his arm around her.

That caused some of his lager to spill, it was alleged he became enraged at that and it was alleged by prosecutor Matthew Ellis that he grabbed her by the hair, pulled her to the floor and punched her to the head.

It was at that stage it was alleged he poured lager onto her.

He tried to go upstairs, she pulled him back, and it was alleged he grabbed her hair again and punched her twice to the side of the head.

Interviewed, he said that they bickered and said he kicked the chair not her foot.

There had been an argument, he was asked to leave, he alleged he had been asked to go back and he fell off the chair and spilled his lager.

It was just a quick pull of the hair, he claimed, but he had not pulled her to the floor and had not punched her on any occasion.

An internal door came off its hinges because he had slammed it with force.

Euros Jones, defending, said while the basis of plea was not accepted by the prosecution, it would make little difference because his client accepted that he was going into custody for breaching the suspended sentence.

It had been a volatile relationship, Smith took a pragmatic approach and accepted it was an aggravating feature that he was already on a suspended sentence for a previous assault on the same victim.
