TWO women were taken to hospital after two cars crashed in Holywell.

Coleshill Street was closed in both directions after the crash, which happened at about 7.30am yesterday.

One woman was cut free from the vehicle.

The Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed both women, who are in their 40s, suffered non-life threatening injuries. They  were taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.

The road remained closed for more than an hour while wreckage from the black Citroen Saxo and sky blue Fiat Punto was removed from the scene near the town’s Lidl supermarket.

A bollard was also damaged in the collision.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they had used cutting equipment to free the trapped woman after being alerted to the incident by the ambulance service.

One fire engine from Holywell and police attended.
