A PENSIONER’S condition deteriorated following surgery for a broken leg, an inquest heard.

Rene Suckley, 90, of Station Road, Rossett, died at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

A statement from Miss Suckley’s niece Pearl Klimaszewski, of Bowling Bank, Wrexham, read to the inquest at the Guildhall, Wrexham, said she had suffered a number of falls over the years.

On October 14 Miss Suckley fell at home and was taken to the Maelor Hospital where it was discovered she had broken her femur. Surgery was carried out but her condition declined.

Medical records showed at around the New Year period Miss Suckley was started on end-of-life care and she died on January 8.

A post-mortem examination by Dr Andrew Dalton found the cause of death was bronchial pneumonia, with the fracture and fall being contributing factors.

North Wales East and Central coroner John Gittins recorded a conclusion of accidental death.
