A PROLIFIC shoplifter who stole items to sell on for profit has been jailed.

Simon Lee Williams, of Crescent Close, Wrexham, was sentenced to 24 weeks in prison for three theft offences, with a 21-day sentence for failure to attend court to be served concurrently.

At Wrexham Magistrates Court, District Judge Timothy Gascoyne said Williams had reached “the end of the road”.

He said: “You were made the subject of a community order in April to keep you out of Wrexham town centre – and all you do is go out and steal and steal again.

“You have numerous previous convictions for dishonesty.

“I accept you may have some difficulties but you have come to the end of
the road as far as I am concerned.”

Williams, 38, pleaded guilty to the theft charges at a previous hearing.

He had been bailed to attend court on Friday but did not show up as he had got the date wrong.

Yesterday, he pleaded guilty to a charge relating to his non-attendance.

Helen Tench, prosecuting, said Williams stole a joint of beef worth about £10 from Marks and Spencer in Eagles Meadow Shopping Centre, Wrexham, on May 16.

Two days later, Williams entered Asda in Holt Road, Wrexham, and stole meat from a display.

He was seen on CCTV and detained after leaving the store.

He admitted the offence and told police he had argued with his psychiatrist, leading to the withdrawal of his medication.

As a result of this he had resorted to taking “street drugs” and was stealing to make ends meet.

And on May 30, Williams stole six DVDs, worth about £50 in total, from British Home Stores in Henblas Street, Wrexham.

When questioned, he said he had stolen because he needed the money.

Euros Jones, defending, said Williams is “motivated” to stop using drugs because his partner is eight months pregnant.

Williams was given an eight-week custodial sentence for each theft, to be served consecutively.
