FAMILIES enjoyed a day in the sun while supporting an all-ability cycling service.

Alyn Waters Country Park was the venue for a charity family fun day held on Saturday in support of Pedal Power, run by Groundwork North Wales.

Labour councillor for Gwersyllt East and South Bernie McCann opened the festivities, which started at 11am and ran until 3pm.

Among the attractions were fun cycling activities with novelty bikes and a BMX track.
Games and craft activities for all the family were also on hand, including a bungee run, treasure hunt, beat the goalie, plant and book stalls, and much more.

Cllr McCann said lots of people of all ages showed up on the day, which was organised to raise money in support of the service.

“We had a very good turn-out,” he said. “The weather was beautiful and there were lots of activities for everyone.

“We’re very lucky in Gwersyllt with so much going on in the same area. People had a great time.”

Groundwork need to raise funds to keep delivering the service and the event forms part of their fundraising activity for the year.

People took advantage of the opportunity to become a friend of Pedal Power as well as joining in with a prize draw and raffle.

Pedal Power is an innovative cycling service run and managed by Groundwork North Wales which provides unique cycling and volunteering opportunities for people of all abilities.

The service is based at Alyn Waters, where they have a wide range of bikes, trikes, tandems, helmets and safety equipment meaning so they can find a bike suitable for most abilities.

It is is run by trained and caring individuals who want everyone to enjoy cycling no matter what their ability.

There is a safe flat cycle track and training area so people can build their confidence and fitness.
