Tiny kittens dumped in a bag of rubbish

A PAIR of tiny kittens were found dumped in a bag of “rubbish” on a driveway.

The two kittens were only saved when an eagle-eyed resident inspected the bag, which had been dumped on his property.

Sheila Stewart, of Capricorn Animal Rescue, near Mold, said the kittens narrowly escaped being run over when a man from New Broughton, Wrexham, saw the bag and assumed it was empty and had been left on his driveway.

She said: “He was pulling into his drive after work when he saw the bag and thought someone had been dumping rubbish in front of his house. He had half a mind to carry on driving, but instead he stopped and had a look.”

The man, who has not been named, found the two black kittens, a brother and sister probably only about 12 days old, trapped in the bag.

Mrs Stewart said: “When he found them they were covered in mess because they’d been stuck in the bag and couldn’t get out.

“Whoever had dumped them put them in a canvas bag marked with the pony rescue logo.

“They are so young they can barely stand up. All they can do is wobble around a bit. They had no water and no way of climbing out. The man’s wife said she’d gone past the bag first thing in the morning so they’d been there for hours.”

If they had been left overnight, Mrs Stewart they would have been dead by morning.

Mrs Stewart said: “They were exposed to the sun and to the cold, so they were dehydrated and shivering.

“The first thing we had to do was feed them, which they didn’t like because a bottle isn’t mum, but they’ve taken to it now. It makes me wonder about what happened to the rest of the litter and to their mum. She must be distraught.”

Mrs Stewart commended the New Broughton man for checking on the kittens, but slammed the people who abandoned them.

She said: “There’s no need for it. I don’t know what they were thinking.”
