A MOTHER has spoken of her continued heartache after her husband of 14-years was killed in a plane crash.

Laura Hendrickson, of Mold, paid tribute to Karl Hendrickson, 43, following the inquest into his death.

Student pilot Mr Hendrickson died along with flying instructor John Green, 50, from Caergwrle, when their light aircraft plunged into the ground near Churton, Chester, in August, 2012.

The two day inquest held at Warrington Town Hall heard the death could have been the result of a failed stalling exercise, but the jury returned an open conclusion and Alan Moore, assistant coroner for Cheshire, said exactly how the crash came about would ultimately remain a mystery.

In a statement to the Leader, Mrs Hendrickson said she and daughter Nicole, 15, are still struggling to come to terms with their loss.

“Karl was a loving husband and a devoted father to Nicole,” she said.

“After 18 months, we are both still struggling to come to terms with such a terrible loss.

“What went wrong on their final flight remains a mystery.”

Mrs Hendrickson left the court room in tears on day one of the inquest as her statement was read to the jury.

It recalled the family having returned from holiday a week before her husband died.

She said specialist aviation legal advisors Stewarts Law LLP are currently in discussions with the relevant aviation insurers on the family’s behalf.

The inquest heard the plane had descended vertically and was rotating as it plunged into the ground.

The impact of the crash “was outside the range of human tolerance” as the plane nosedived into a field.

It was said both men died at the scene from severe multiple injuries.

The inquest was told Mr Green was a highly trained pilot who, it was estimated, had more than 10,000 flying hours’ experience.

Mr Hendrickson was on his eighth lesson on the day of the crash.

Mrs Hendrickson said her husband had a lifelong passion for aviation as did Mr Green.
