A “VITAL” village post office will not reopen in its current location.
It was announced last week, to the joy of villagers, that the under threat Mynydd Isa Post Office, near Mold, would remain open.
Uncertainty had previously surrounded its future after the Spar store where it is located, which is leased from a private owner, shut down.
There was then further confusion earlier this week when its planned reopening next Monday was called off.
Now the Post Office has confirmed the facility will not reopen in its current location.
A spokesman said: “We would like to apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused due to the temporary closure of the branch.
“We had hoped to reopen a temporary service on the current site, but sadly this is now unable to go ahead.
“Post Office officials are now speaking to other potential partners in the community with a view to finding a new location for the service.”
Delyn AM Sandy Mewies said the decision was disappointing but said she had been reassured by Post Office officials they were looking for an alternative location.
She said: “The Post Office have told me they are still committed to providing a post office service in Mynydd Isa and are looking for a possible location.
“I have been assured the closure is only temporary and the Post Office will be reopened as soon as possible.
“I will continue to monitor the situation.”
Last week the Post Office announced the store would be reopening with a temporary sub-postmaster in the same location and with the same opening hours, products and services.
The spokesman added: “Any move to a new location would be subject to a period of public consultation with customers and other interested parties.
“We would like to reassure customers we remain committed to maintaining Post Office services in Mynydd Isa and that the local Post Office field team is working hard to find a way to reopen the service as soon as possible.”
Speaking after the post office reopening was delayed, Argoed councillor Hilary McGuill said: “It is very frustrating. A lot of time and effort has been put into this and we thought we had a solution, but now it doesn’t look like that.
“I’m hoping this is just a temporary issue and we are trying to find our way around this to get a permanent solution.
“Everybody is rooting for it. It is a much needed facility.”
