A MAN has admitted long distance harassment of his ex-wife by phone and text threats from Dubai where he was working.

Richard Williams, 43, was arrested at Manchester Airport on his return to the UK on Friday.

At one stage he threatened to murder her and branded her an “evil b****”.

A court heard how he was even abusive when a police officer took one of his calls and warned him about his behaviour.

Williams, who was staying at The Glynne Arms in Hawarden while in the UK, was remanded in custody pending sentence.

The sentencing date was brought forward because he is due to fly back to Abu Dhabi.

A contract air fitter, Williams had phoned and sent text messages to his former wife, the mother of his two children, who lives in Saltney.

A special weekend sitting of Flintshire Magistrates Court at Mold on Saturday heard the couple separated in 2013 due to his alleged controlling and abusive behaviour.

When they divorced a non-molestation order was made and a contact regime was drawn up for him to keep in touch with his children, under which he should not contact his former wife’s address.

But she received a number of calls and text messages and at one stage he said to her “You try and get another injunction on me and I will murder you.”

She was frightened at what he would do when he returned to the UK and told police she felt she was “living in the shadow of evil.”

Prosecutor Susan Duncombe said a police officer was at her home investigating the matter when the defendant rang.

The officer warned him about his conduct but he said she could be anyone and ignored her.

Louise Eckley, defending, said her client was due to return to his work on June 22. She applied for bail in the meantime.

But magistrates refused to bail him and said it was too much of a risk to bail him.

The threats made and the fear caused made it appropriate to remand him in custody.
