Singing brothers from Holywell still enjoying the ride

BRITAIN’S Got Talent finalists Richard and Adam have had quite a year.

The Holywell brothers finished third in 2013 after shelving their sandwich-making professions to appear on the show.

Their album release then spent four weeks at the top of the UK charts after the singing sibling sensations were snapped up by Sony.

Their debut album The Impossible Dream went gold after selling more than 100,000 records.

They followed that success with The Christmas Album and are about to release their third – Richard and Adam: At the Movies – on August 11.

They spoke about their new release and about meeting and performing with their singing idols, including fellow Welsh singing legend Tom Jones, as they prepare for their second UK tour since becoming one of the nation’s favourites.

Speaking exclusively to Leader, the Johnson brothers admitted they are still living the dream that brought them so much attention, including a   guest appearance on the semi-finals of the show where they performed Can You Feel the Love Tonight from The Lion King.

“After Britain’s Got Talent, we didn’t know what would come next,” said Richard. “But we got a deal with Sony within a week and since then it’s been a whirlwind for us.

“We’re extremely happy about what has happened since. The Impossible Dream was released and we did really well with it. We’ve had some great reviews, particularly when we performed in London. We were thrilled.”

The pair embarked on their first UK tour earlier this year and will hit the road again for a second tour in 2015.

“We are loving the whole experience,” said Richard.

“We’re doing what we love and always dreamed of doing.

“Fortunately we are not on the go all the time. It can be a bit bonkers but we do have time to chill out before we shoot off somewhere else.

“It was very surreal going back on Britain’s Got Talent.

“It was really nerve-wracking but at least we didn’t have to face a vote.”

Richard and Adam also made an early morning appearance on Good Morning Britain earlier this week before speaking to the Leader.

And they revealed one of their biggest highlights of an action packed year was meeting Tom Jones as well as ‘marmite’ music mogul Simon Cowell during their BGT appearances.

“Meeting Sir Tom was incredible,” Richard said.

“We asked him what the secrets are to his success and getting to learn something from him was fantastic.

“Simon Cowell was another big one. He is such a big music icon. When we finished BGT, he shook my mum’s hand and told her he thought we were amazing. It meant a lot to us.

“We sang alongside Leona Lewis at Christmas which was brilliant and we have also met Eliza Dolittle, Ed Sheeran and Ellie Golding.

“It has been great to meet some really famous people on the road.” And the brothers are now sporting a near identical look according to the people they meet – with Adam having shed four stone since the pair’s BGT rise to fame.

“It’s funny when people mistake me for Richard,” said Adam.

“The last 12 months have just flown by. It’s been fantastic.

“It certainly doesn’t seem like a year since we appeared in the final – it seems like yesterday.

“Everything sort of happened all around us and we’ve been swept away on a fantastic journey.

“But we would never see it as a way of changing who we are. We are true to ourselves and really appreciate everything.”

The singers revealed they have just heard the final version of their third Movies album, having recently finished recording a collection of classics including Moon River, Goldfinger and I Have a Dream.

“It’s really exciting. I can’t wait for it to be released and to performing all the new songs,” Adam said.

“We’ve been having so much fun  – we don’t want it to end and are savouring every minute. Hopefully there’s plenty more to come from us.

“We’re working hard but we are enjoying everything we do along the way.”

Asked about their favourites for this year’s BGT final, Adam said: “I really like James Smith.

“He’s only 15 but he already sounds like a professional.

“He’s so talented. He’s so young but I feel it is the right time for him.

“I also like Collabro because they remind me of ourselves a bit,” he added.

Richard however is backing swing band Jack Pack to hit the high notes and win the public vote.

But despite staying true to themselves, there are some things Richard and Adam have had to let slip.

“I haven’t made a sandwich for anyone since I went on the show,” joked Richard.

“But our feet are still firmly on the ground,” he declared.

And true to form, Richard and Adam are set to perform for charity in support of their biggest fan, their nan, who has shared in their journey to the top and also made a brief BGT appearance after the pair had completed one of their auditions.

The charity event in aid of Parkinsons and Dementia takes place at the Springfield Hotel in Holywell on September 13.
