A SINGLE mother of two says she was left feeling “sick” after belongings at her
fire-damaged home were rummaged through by thieves.

24-year old Jennifer Clutton, now a resident of Morland Avenue, Wrexham, described her anger at thieves who stole one of her childrens’ toys and rummaged through “important” personal belongings.

Miss Clutton and her young sons Tai, four, and Nate, two, had to leave her council-owned home on Pentre Gwyn, Caia Park, after a fire at a neighbour’s home in April.

A large hole was left in her roof, and guttering at the back of the property had melted and collapsed.

They have since been living in a smaller, two-bedroom property on Morland Avenue while work was carried out at Pentre Gwyn.

Last week her empty house was targeted by thieves.

As well as stealing a miniature motorbike belonging to her eldest son, thieves also went through a box containing keepsakes, including hospital tags worn by her sons after they were born and locks of hair taken during their first haircuts.

She said: “It made me feel sick that somebody else has been looking at them, never mind been through them. They’re important to me and my boys.”

Miss Clutton added: “They’re things that if they’d been damaged or stolen, I’d never get back.”

A spokesman for Wrexham Council said: “Miss Clutton was offered temporary accommodation while work was being carried out in her property. The door to the property was boarded up as an added security measure.

“Unfortunately this board was forcibly removed and this is how entry was gained into the property.”

They added: “We have since fitted protective screens and an alarm to the property to try to improve security while it is not occupied.”

A spokesman for North Wales Police confirmed officers were called to a report of criminal damage at Pentre Gwyn on Tuesday, May 27.
