FIREFIGHTERS were called to tackle a fire in a poultry shed in Marford in which more than 20,000 chicks perished.

Following the call at 7.34pm last night, three crews from Wrexham, a crew from Johnstown, the  aerial  ladder  platform from Wrexham and the incident command Unit from Rhyl attended the scene to tackle the fire using breathing apparatus, hose reels and a main jet.

The fire caused 100 per cent fire damage to the shed and the 24, 000 chicks housed inside sadly perished.

One male received burns to his face and arms and was transferred to hospital by ambulance for treatment.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is under way.
