A NEW community museum will unveil the history of Cefn Mawr to the public.

Members of the Cefn Mawr Historical Society have launched their new display in the Waterloo Museum at the George Edwards Hall, on Well Street.

The Cefn Mawr Community Council and the historical society formed a partnership to create the museum and exhibition centre.

Ian Parry, chairman of the Historical Society, said: “It is proposed the venue will house local artefacts, maps, photos etc and we now invite residents to donate, on loan, interesting items to the museum.

“We wish to congratulate and thank members of Cefn Community Council and county councillors for their impact and initiative in creating this ground-breaking scheme.”

Cllr Ken Bathers, chairman of the community council, said: “Our area is steeped in history and I am sure the society will play a big part in attracting visitors to Cefn and the surrounding area.

“With the Township Heritage, which has made a huge difference to the village, and the Holly Bush facilities to be completed in the autumn, all will breathe new life
in to our village.”

The next meeting will take place at the hall from 7pm on Friday, where Ruabon resident Emrys Roberts will give a talk on Memories of Cefn Mawr.
