MORE than 140 jobs have been saved at a doomed frozen foods factory.
Leeds-based David Wood Baking have reached an agreement to purchase the Creative Foods factory in Flint from parent company Brakes Group and which will secure the site’s long term future and the future of 142 workers.
Once the purchase has been completed, the ready meals factory will continue to operate and staff will become employees of David Wood Baking.
Brakes will now enter a transfer of undertakings employment protection (TUPE) consultation with employees.
Divisional Director at Brakes, Ranald Forbes, said: “This is obviously great news for employees and we’re really pleased that we’ve been able to find a suitable buyer who will keep the plant operating as a going concern.
“This has been a very difficult and unsettling time for our colleagues at Flint, but we would like to thank them for the way they have continued to show their professionalism and dedication during the consultation process.
“We look forward to bringing this to a successful conclusion in June.”
David Wood, MD of David Wood Baking, added: “We're delighted to be acquiring Creative Foods and I am hoping to secure its long term future, working with the customers and employees of Creative Foods and the Welsh Government and Flintshire Council to ensure this happens over the next few weeks.”
