A teenager waiting for a kidney transplant has raised more than £3,000 for charity with an evening of music and song.

Dialysis patient Dylan Lewis, 19 of Talwrn Road, Coedpoeth, said he was delighted at the success of the fundraiser, which he organised to benefit the renal unit of Alder Hey children’s hospital in Liverpool.

Dylan had a kidney and liver transplant in 2007.

Although the liver op was a success, the kidney failed – so he’s now waiting for a new donor to be found.

The music night was held at the Brymbo Sports and Social Complex and music-mad Dylan handled DJ duties with a disco, while singer Davi Chris also took to the stage.

There was also an auction and raffle and altogether £3,119.67 was raised.

Dylan said: “There was a great attendance and I’d like to thank everyone who helped, including Davi, as well as Vona Law, from Bryneglwys, who helped to get raffle and auction prizes and Paul Anyon, of Bryneglwys, who did the auction.

“Tracy Daglar, who is a sister at Alder Hey, was at the evening to give her support.”

Dylan received treatment at Alder Hey for six years and organising the fundraiser for the renal unit has been a long standing ambition for him after he got a new kidney.

But Dylan decided instead of waiting for a transplant, he would go ahead with the charity benefit.

“Alder Hey has looked after me brilliantly and I want to say thank you to everyone there,” said Dylan.

“I am currently on a waiting list for a kidney transplant and that could take place at any time. I decided I wanted to do a fundraiser now.”

Dylan had a kidney and liver transplant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital in 2007.

His body rejected the donor kidney and it was removed the following year.

He needed 12 months to build up his strength again and has been on the waiting list for a new kidney since 2009.

Talking about his experiences, Dylan said: “You just get on with it. I try to do as much as I can. I would also like to say a big thank you to everyone who made donations and supported the fundraiser.”

Dylan stopped going to the children’s hospital in June last year and receives dialysis at the Maelor Hospital.
