BALLOONS were released to remember a man who died two days before his 40th birthday party.

More than 150 people were set to attend a party to mark the birthday of Andrew Perrin, of Plas Madoc, at the Overton Recreation Club on Saturday.

But Mr Perrin died suddenly last Thursday morning.

On Sunday his family released 40 balloons – one for each year of his life – from the village cricket pitch, while friends who had brought their own released more.

His wife Amy – to whom he was married since September 2007 – said although he suffered high blood pressure, Mr Perrin had not been ill.

Speaking on Monday, his mother Mary Perrin said: “He would have been 40 yesterday. We were having a laugh and a joke on Wednesday night. He was looking forward to his party.

“He was a big fan of ABBA and he was saying he would get some ABBA CDs for the party.”

His wife Amy added: “He used to talk to everyone. He was very sociable. If he didn’t know someone he would say hi anyway.

“People could have a really good conversation with him. He had a great laugh, and it used to get everyone going. It was the way he was with everyone.”

Mr Perrin had worked at the Stans store in St Martins for about 20 years.

Andrew Faulks, a partner at Stans, said: “He was very well known – the whole store was shocked on Thursday. We had more than 100 people from the store planning to go to his party.

“He started here just before his 20th birthday. We was such a quiet lad when he started and his character certainly changed over the years.”

The funeral will take place at St Mary’s Church, Overton, at 1.15pm, on Friday, May 30, followed by cremation.

Andrew leaves wife Amy, siblings Ian, Steven and Tracy, nephew Aaron, nieces Kailey, Amy and Elise and great-nephew Casey.
