A NEW £2.4m medical centre is to open next month.
The Castle Health Centre in Colliery Road, Chirk will house the town’s surgery, a pharmacy, and some services currently provided at Chirk Community Hospital.
The current Chirk Surgery will move from its current base in Castle Road on Monday, June 9.
Practice manager Julie Webster confirmed the service would remain the same, including the telephone number.
She added a formal opening ceremony will be held a few weeks later.
Cllr Ian Roberts welcomed the news, commenting: “I’m very pleased, it can’t come soon enough.
“Cllr Terry Evans and I visited the site about eight weeks ago and we would like to thank everybody who has worked so hard to make this happen.
“It’s going to be an outstanding facility for Chirk,” he said.
The new building has taken more than 10 years to come to fruition after the site was first earmarked in 2003 but then suffered Welsh Government setbacks.
The two-storey steel-framed structure also has several sophisticated eco-friendly features, including photo-voltaic solar panels and an advanced drainage system.
