MYSTERY surrounds the final movements of a man whose body was discovered near railway tracks.

The body of Daniel Christopher Starr from Deeside was found shortly before 8.45am on Monday near Hawarden Bridge Station in Shotton.

A post-mortem examination revealed the 20-year-old died from hypothermia.

Police have confirmed the death is being treated as unexplained.

British Transport Police have launched an appeal for information which they hope can help them piece together Mr Starr's last movements.

Detective Chief Inspector Iain Miller from BTP said: "We are conducting a thorough investigation and are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding Daniel's tragic death.

"We are eager to talk to any of Daniel's friends or acquaintances, particularly anyone who saw him on Saturday night or since then, as they may be able to help our investigation.

"We know the last time anyone saw Daniel he was seen sitting on the wall outside the Lady Hamilton public house in Neston, Cheshire, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

"I would like to emphasise that they are not in any trouble, but that we need to speak to them because they could assist our enquiries in piecing together Daniel's final movements."

Daniel was described as a white male, 5ft 3in, very slim build, with dark collar length hair, and was wearing a green hooded top, black Vans t-shirt, black jeans and 'Converse'-type footwear.

DCI Miller added: "We’d like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time, or who has any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, so we can build a clearer picture of what took place."

A BTP spokesman confirmed a post mortem, which took place on Tuesday, revealed Mr Starr had died from hypothermia.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact British Transport Police on Freefone 0800 40 50 40 quoting background reference 98 of 12/05/14.
