A 26-YEAR-OLD badly injured in a crash near Llangollen at the weekend has died.

Ieuan Christopher Hearn, of Corwen, was travelling between his home town and Llangollen on the A5 on Sunday, when his white Peugeot van was involved in a crash with a green VW Passat.

North Wales Police said Mr Hearn, a former pupil at Ysgol Dinas Bran in Llangollen, died yesterday as a result of the injuries he sustained.

His mother Philomena Hearn said the loss of her son would “leave a huge hole” in the lives of his family and friends.

“Ieuan will be greatly missed,” she said.

“We’d also like to add our sincere appreciation to the ambulance and hospital staff who did all they could to save his life.

“I ask that we may be given time and privacy to try and come to terms with this terrible news.”

Scores of tributes were also left on Mr Hearn’s Facebook page.

Ellen Sheridan said: “You will never be forgotten and the world has got that bit darker now you’re gone. You will all ways be in my heart. R.I.P ieuan you were truly one in a million and I feel blessed to have gotten to know you.”

Gareth Edwards said: “Can't believe it, gutted. My thoughts are with your family.”

Liv Lumsden added: “One-in-a- million you are Ieu! I’ll never ever forget you!”

Mr Hearn was cut out of his vehicle after the crash, which happened at about 1.20pm on Sunday near the White Waters Country Hotel.

He was flown to hospital in Stoke by Air Ambulance

Senior investigating officer Sgt Gwyndaf Jones, of the Roads Policing Unit at St Asaph, said: “Sadly the driver of the Peugeot, 26-year-old Corwen man Ieuan Christopher Hearn, has passed away as a result of the injuries he sustained.

“The driver of the Passat sustained minor injuries.”

Sgt Jones added “A full investigation is underway into the cause and we’d like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed the collision to contact Police on 101 and quote reference RC14069696.”
