WREXHAM FC’s oldest fan turned model for a day to help launch the club’s new season ticket campaign with a special photo-shoot
Tom Hughes, 97, of Hightown, has been following the club since he went to his first game at The Racecourse Ground in 1921, aged just five.
Nowadays he dines in the Bamford Suite with family and friends. This week he was invited to the club’s promotional shoot at Pathway Studios in Chester, which kicked off the Reds’ new season ticket campaign.
The launch coincided with the reveal of the new 150th anniversary home kit – a Nike produced red and black striped shirt commemorating the first kit the club wore when it was formed in 1864.
Tom said he was thrilled to be involved with the promotion and delighted with the new kit.
“I was invited along by the club and it was quite an experience,” he said.
“This is the third time the kit has changed in my lifetime, as when I first watched them, they played in blue.
“I’m hoping the stripes will dazzle some of the teams we play against and cannot wait to get my season ticket for the new season. We’ve got a really good manager in Kevin Wilkin and in my opinion, he could be the next John Neal. He talks a lot of sense.”
Tom was joined by Wrexham’s current crop, as players were handed their first opportunity to give fans a teaser of the brand new kit.
The shoot also involved club legends such as Joey Jones, Dixie McNeil and Barry Horne.
Colin Grist, owner of Pathway Studios, said: “It has been great to be involved. We got some fantastic shots today many of which wouldn’t be seen by fans unless they feature on the season ticket material.”
Wrexham FC commercial manager Steven Cook said: “We are extremely happy with the season ticket campaign this year. In a milestone year for the club there is so much to get excited about.
Season ticket prices have been frozen as a thank you gesture to the club’s loyal supporters.
