EUROPE’S largest independent glass processor has announced the creation of 80 jobs as part of its move to Flintshire.

Carey Glass wants to establish a large new production facility on Hawarden Business Park, which forms part of Deeside Enterprise Zone, and has said the venture will bring employment for 80 people over two years.

The glass company currently employs 525 workers at its two existing sites in Northern Ireland, but is leasing an 80,000 sq ft industrial unit on the Flintshire site.

It is establishing a flat glass processing facility to support infrastructure projects across the UK.

The announcement has been welcomed by Deeside Industrial Park chairman Askar Sheibani.

“We have been quite successful in creating more than 1,000 jobs at the industrial zone and this is another endorsement of achievements there,” Mr Sheibani said.

“Deeside Industrial Zone has a highly beneficial impact on North Wales and there will be a lot more companies considering a move to the area.

“That Carey Glass is to create jobs here is very good news for the area, which has massive potential.

“It is testament to the hard work that has taken place to make these investments possible.”

The Welsh Government has worked closely with the Irish company to facilitate its expansion into Wales where it will be well placed to serve the UK and European market.

Recruitment to fill the jobs will start  this month.

Bill Carey, managing director of Carey Glass, said: “We are excited to be a part of the Deeside Enterprise Zone.

“Our new production facility in Hawarden Business Park puts us right in the heart of a manufacturing hub and allow us to better serve our UK client base.

“Our customers are extremely happy about the opening of this new factory as we can provide them with an enhanced service and we look forward starting recruitment in the coming weeks.”

Cllr Derek Butler, Flintshire Council cabinet member for regeneration and tourism said: “This is wonderful news for Deeside and the wider region.

“Carey Glass is an international leader in glass technology and we welcome the company to Deeside.

“The decision to invest by Carey follows similar announcements by Toyota, Tata, Westbridge Furniture and many others, taking the total committed new jobs in Deeside to well over 1,000 since the Enterprise Zone was declared.

“Importantly, most of these jobs are in manufacturing, the fastest growing sector of the economy.

“We will now work with Carey to ensure that as many as possible of the 80 new jobs are secured by local people.”
