A BUSINESSMAN plagued by vandals said they are costing him thousands of pounds as he tries to create new jobs in the area.
Gregg Ashfield, managing director of Grantech Limited and Buckley Memorials, said he is ploughing hundreds of thousands of pounds into new premises in a move he hopes will create at least a dozen new jobs.
But he has been left fuming by persistent vandals who have broken in on several occasions over the last two weeks, smashing windows and memorial headstones, as well as damaging diggers being used in the construction of the new site nearby.
“This is down to idiots with nothing to do, but they are costing me a lot of money,” Mr Ashfield said.
“They have been smashing my windows and the brand new range of headstones lined up for display.
“It has happened several times in the last two weeks and I am absolutely fuming.
“They have smashed the cabs in builders’ vehicles and it is slowing everything down.”
Last summer Flintshire Council gave Grantech Limited the green light to build their new 10,000 square foot premises at the Spencer Industrial Estate at Globe Way in Buckley.
The business, which currently employs more than 20 people, established itself on Buckley High Street in 1972.
But Mr Ashfield claims his decision to create jobs for local people through the expansion move is being upset by youths with nothing better to do.
“It feels like a kick in the teeth,” he said.
“We put all this) money together and we are trying to create employment for people in the area – perhaps even the parents of those responsible for this vandalism.
“I have taken on two more staff already but things are being completely smashed up and it isn’t good for us.
“It has cost me more than £1,000 in repairs already.”
Mr Ashfield said he will now have to fork out even more to increase security and improve lighting at the site following the most recent incident, which happened between 5.30pm on Monday and noon on Tuesday.
North Wales Police confirmed: “There has been criminal damage at Buckley Memorials, Globe Way, Spencer Industrial Estate, Buckley.
