A £30m plan to revamp education facilities in a town is set for the go-ahead.

The ambitious plans would see Holywell High School demolished and a new primary and secondary school complex built in its place.

The primary school facilities would replace Ysgol Perth y Terfyn Infants and Ysgol y Fron Junior school.
A new sports hall would also be placed on the site.

In a report, which will be discussed by Flintshire Council’s planning committee on Wednesday, planning officer David Glyn Jones said: “The new school premises is intended to provide a combined through school with capacity for 315 pupils of primary school age and capacity for 600 pupils of secondary school age.
“The design evolved to represent the segregation through the identities of the schools within the building such that primary level school is housed within a single-storey structure, with the secondary school in a three-storey structure – while  being part of one building.”

At the primary school, a sports pitch and a sports hall, which will double up as a dining room and assembly hall, will be created.
For the secondary school, two grass pitches, an all-weather pitch, tennis courts, an athletics track and a sports hall will be produced.

These facilities would be made available for the use of the community outside of school hours.

The scheme is part of Flintshire Council’s 21st Century Schools’ programme of changes, which will see changes to provision at Connah’s Quay High School, John Summers High School in Queensferry and Elfed High School in Buckley.
When the revamp was announced, Holywell High headteacher John Putt said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the children, young people and whole community in Holywell. The High School is an improving school. Staff are committed to working together to support every learner, secure better outcomes and to make the most of the opportunity offered by this investment.”
