THE MOTHER of a teenager killed in a car crash is hoping to raise thousands of pounds in her memory.

Jacqui Jepson, of Gwernymynydd, near Mold, has organised an auction of promises event in the hope of raising funds for the North Wales Emergency Doctor Service (NWEDS).

Her daughter, Sarah, was just 16 when she died following a crash on November 1 last year on the A5104 in Penymynydd.

Mrs Jepson said the service provided by the people who attended her daughter’s accident was invaluable.

She said: “The work these doctors do in their own time is fantastic.

“They are a group who are on call for if there is an emergency – they don’t get paid for it.

“They will be called from their own homes if there is a difficult traffic collision to help.”

Mrs Jepson said she hoped to run a fundraising event for the charity every year in Sarah’s memory.

She said: “This year we hope to raise £3,000 and then hopefully next year, when it will be Sarah’s 18th birthday, we can raise even more.

“Any money raised will help provide equipment bags for the doctors.

“They are amazing – they even provide support for families afterwards – and they can’t fundraise themselves because of their other commitments.”

As part of the fundraising drive, Sarah’s friends are tackling a sponsored fancy dress walk to the summit of Moel Famau.

Two of Sarah’s closest friends, Mold Alun sixth form students Enya Maguire and Nadia Lahraoui, both 16, are organising the walk, which will take place on Wednesday, May 21 – Sarah’s 17th birthday.

They said they were hoping about 60 people would take part and have already raised £400.

The NWEDS organisation was set up to provide skilled medical pre-hospital care for emergencies happening in North Wales as part of a coordinated response with other emergency services.

Each NWEDS doctor carries a range of equipment when attending incidents, with equipment being bought with the help of money raised by the charity.

The event organised by Mrs Jepson, which is almost sold out, is being held at Gwernymynydd Village Hall on Saturday, May 24, at 7pm.
