A MEMORIAL football match remembering the life of a father-of-three killed in a motorcycle crash is to take place at a Football League stadium.
Christopher Davies, from Gorsedd, near Holywell, died on August 4 last year when the motorcycle he was riding was involved in a collision with a car in Carmel.
The keen sportsman, 52, had worked in Birkenhead as a showroom salesman for car company Lookers for more than 26 years.
Now his former employers are looking forward to staging the charity game in his memory at Tranmere Rovers’ Prenton Park ground tomorrow evening.
Football clubs including Liverpool, Everton and Manchester United have all got on board to donate raffle prizes at the event, along with Lancashire Cricket Club and Airbus UK.
Prizes include signed shirts and stadium tours.
Mr Davies' brother Tim, who works at the Lloc Service Station, said: "Chris was a very popular man who loved his sport. I went to watch Tranmere with him a few times but he was also a very keen motorcycle trial rider and a road runner too.
"His boss described him as the best of the best.
“I am really pleased Lookers have arranged all of this in his memory.
"The teams will be made up of family members, friends and Lookers staff as well.
"I would love to score and will definitely by trying as hard as I can when the game kicks off.”
The teams will line up for the 90-minute match to contest for the Chris Davies Charity Cup at 6.30pm on Thursday, with proceeds from the event going to the two charities Mr Davies had put his running shoes on to raise money for in the past – Help For Heroes and The Soldier's Charity.
Ellie Huntington, a Lookers employee who has spent six months organising the event, said: “Chris was a really good friend to us all and a massive part of the place.
He was always fundraising through his running.
“We really wanted to do something in his memory and we have worked hard to make sure it is a really good event.”
Ellie says she hopes the charity match can become an annual event.
A Tranmere Rovers spokesman said: “We’re delighted to be able to host the Chris Davies Charity Cup on Thursday. We know how important this match is to Lookers and their staff and wish them luck with their fundraising.”
Admission is £1 for adults, and children are free.
