A WOMAN arrested after a foot chase with police spat at officers before cracking a door frame in the police station toilets.

Sophie Elisha Russell was with a group of friends on Colwyn Road in Wrexham on April 5 when she was seen by officers holding a small, clear plastic bag over her head which they believed to contain drugs.

Approaching Russell, 24, to conduct a search, she walked away from officers and a foot chase followed.

Russell, of Pen Y Bryn, Wrexham, was eventually arrested and taken to Wrexham Police Station.

She was described by officers as being verbally abusive during transport.

When put in a cell at the station, Russell spat in the direction of officers, hitting the cell door. The cell had to be fully cleaned before it could be used again.

Allowed to use toilets at the station, Russell kicked the cubicle door in anger, cracking the frame and causing the door to hit an officer in the knee.

A search conducted at the station found her to be in possession of a small amount of cannabis.

Russell pleaded guilty at Wrexham Magistrates Court to obstructing a PC, possession of a controlled substance and two charges of criminal damage.

Justine McVitie, defending, said the “particularly unsavoury” incident had spiralled out of control after Russell tried to get away from police.

Mrs McVitie said Russell kicked out at the toilet door “in temper” after officers refused to remove her handcuffs.

She added although Russell had tried to run from police, she did not get very far before being arrested.

Magistrates gave Russell a 12-month community order with supervision.

She was fined £50 for damage to the cell and £100 for damage to the toilet door and she was ordered to pay £85 costs and a £60 victim surcharge. A forfeiture and destruction order was made for the cannabis.
