A GREAT-grandfather will mark the anniversary of life-saving heart surgery by scaling Snowdon.

For the second year – three years on from having a triple heart bypass operation –  68-year-old Val Owen will attempt the gruelling trek with his brother-in-law Chris Ruddle, 67, to raise money for various charities.

The pair, both from Sychdyn, will attempt the challenge at the end of May.

Mr Ruddle, who is suffering with prostate cancer, will donate any funds he raises to a prostate cancer charity.

Grandfather-of-17 Mr Owen is aiming to support the Wales Air Ambulance, Cancer Research UK and Broadgreen and Royal Hospitals in Liverpool.

Mr Owen spent time at Broadgreen Hospital while undergoing his heart operation.
He said: “It will mark the anniversary of my operation two years on.

“We will be doing the walk at the end of May. We haven’t picked a day yet but we will do it on the nicest day we possibly can.”

They will begin their walk at Rhyd Ddu railway station and hike to the summit of the mountain.

If anyone would like to support their fundraising drive, they can email Mr Owen on valowen1945@hotmail.com.
