A FAMILY-run business has been left devastated after the theft of thousands of pounds worth of fireworks.
Bright Sparks Fireworks, which specialises in professional displays and the sale of retail fireworks, based on the Wrexham Industrial Estate, was broken into overnight on Tuesday.
Police are now appealing for information.
The business is run by brothers Daniel and Stefan Williams.
Their younger brother David Williams, from Chirk, works there part-time.
David said the theft has left them reeling.
“All of our fireworks, all of our stock, about £3,000 worth, has been taken.
“It’s pretty devastating and we’re all absolutely gutted to be honest.
“We are a display company and have only been running for a couple of years. We began selling fireworks last November.
“This has hit us hard as the stock was either on sale or due to be returned – so we will be losing out on a lot of money we haven’t really got.
“It looks like six containers have been broken into. They’ve wiped nearly everything out. A trail of boxes was left – along with a sledgehammer.
“They must have used some sort of a grinder too otherwise they wouldn’t have been able to get through the lock.
“It’s hard to put a number on the quantity taken but they were all ‘category three’ fireworks which are available to the public.
“It’s lucky they weren’t category four, which are for display only, but they are still dangerous in the wrong hands.”
He added: “We think we were targeted because not many people know we’re here.
“It seems to be the fireworks they were after, as there is a Kawasaki Motocross bike there as well that hasn’t been touched.
“Police have had reports of fireworks being set off on the industrial estate at Caia
Park in the early hours of the morning, and that’s all they could use them for really.
“They won’t be able to sell them on – but it’s left us with a real headache.”
A spokesman for North Wales Police said: “We are appealing for information after thieves broke into storage containers on the Wrexham Industrial Estate overnight.
“Police were alerted to the burglary at Ash Road North at 6.38am.
“It is understood that at least six containers were broken into.
“A quantity of fireworks was taken from one container, but it is not clear yet what, if anything, was stolen from the other containers.
“Anyone with information is asked to call 101. The crime reference number is R063447.”
