WREXHAM is ready to party this weekend.
The town is hosting the Focus Wales festival, which organisers say got off to great start on Wednesday night.
It carries on until tomorrow, and on Sunday sci-fi convention Wales Comic Con returns to the town, headlined by TV presenter Jonathan Ross.
Focus Wales hit the ground running on Wednesday with a concert at Central Station featuring a number of bands.
One of the festival organisers, Neal Thompson, said: “We are delighted with how everything went. The feedback has been brilliant and people have been going mad about it on Twitter.
“This was just the start we needed to get everything going and build up the momentum.
“People are coming to Wrexham from all over the globe. There is a great atmosphere, things are really buzzing.”
The festival features a wide selection of attractions from the world of arts and entertainment at a number of venues. It is expected to attract between 3,000 to 4,000 people over the course of the four days.
Thousands of tickets have been sold for Wales Comic Con with many costumed fans expected to descend on Wrexham for the event.
Organiser and founder Jaime Milner said: “We’ve been lucky enough to get the opportunity to work with some great guests and hope that this year’s event will be better than ever.”
The event gives sci-fi fans the chance to meet likeminded individuals and contributors from their favourite shows, including actors and writers.
There will be more than 100 vendors selling merchandise including clothing, to souvenirs and comics.
Last year the event hosted more than 60 celebrity guests and in excess of 8,000 visitors. With sci-fi fans all over the world expected to attend, Jaime says the town will benefit economically.
He said: “It has got even bigger again this year and will take over the whole of the Glyndwr campus. The amount of money it will bring to the town is huge. People are travelling over from the USA and Japan to attend, and last year hotels in the area were all booked up.
“We’re looking forward to seeing all our fans again this year, and as ever, we hope everyone has a fantastic time.”
