A DELIGHTFUL donkey with a booming bray is returning to health thanks to a group of big-hearted animal lovers.
The animal was bought at a sale by members of the Horse and Owner Help Centre (HOHC), which has a yard based in Brymbo, who were immediately drawn to him by his ear-splitting call.
The white donkey – which has been named Mr Whippy by HOHC carers – had a weeping eye and poorly feet.
But the deafening donkey is on the path to recovery.
Nicola Miller, of HOHC, said: “We had noticed him in the pens. It was hard not to as he has the loudest eeyore we have ever heard.
“He had a very poorly eye that was weeping and closed and his feet were in need of attention.
“But after a couple of days of treatment and tender loving care his eye is much better.
“Mr Whippy now needs a lot of care to ensure his feet can be trimmed as soon as possible.”
HOHC has rescued and rehomed 71 horses, ponies and donkeys since January 2013.
“We often take in large numbers at once and the most we have taken in at one time is 22. At the centre we are committed to not only giving a second chance to animals, but also their owners,” Mrs Miller added.
She said in the current economic climate more and more owners are finding it difficult to cope with the costs of animals.
“We are there to offer our support. We accept horses into the centre in cases where owners are no longer able to care for them properly, and they receive the best in veterinary care, good food, and calm considerate handling,” she said.
