A HUSBAND has spoken of his “immense pride” after it was announced a permanent tribute to his wife will be installed at the school where she taught.

Mum-of-one Emma-Jane Hopper, of Burton Green, Rossett was diagnosed with a rare brain condition, moyamoya syndrome, at the age of 34 last October and died from the illness just a month later.

Emma-Jane taught Years 3 and 4 at St Peter’s Primary School in Rossett, and pupils at the school, staff and friends have since raised £3,000 in her memory.

The money will be used to install a mosaic at the school in her memory and her husband, Scott, said the amount of money raised made him realise how well-loved she was.

“I am immensely proud, Emma-Jane loved teaching and was passionate about St Peter’s,” he said.

“The sheer number of people who have donated and taken part in tribute to Emma-Jane is overwhelming and it makes you realise how many lives she touched.

“The amount of people who have helped has blown me away.”

Emma-Jane died on November 16 last year, leaving behind their two-year-old daughter Eleanor.

Mr Hopper said: “It’s been tough for both of us but we’re getting there, keeping busy.

“I lost my wife, best friend and mother to my daughter in one go but we have each other to keep us going.”

Moyamoya is a narrowing or blockage of the four main blood vessels in the brain known as internal carotid arteries.

Since her death, staff and pupils at the school have been raising money through a virtual cycle ride to South Africa.

The challenge to cycle over 5,000 miles was done by more than 350 staff, pupils and friends of Emma-Jane so they can install a mosaic which will depict all the aspects of her interaction in the school.

Headteacher Helen Pritchard said: “We have raised £3,000 which is fantastic.

“The order has now been placed for the mosaic and we are hoping to have it installed by the end of the summer term.

“The amount raised shows just how much Emma-Jane meant to everyone in the community.

“The support has been tremendous and a great tribute to Emma-Jane.

“We are grateful to everyone who has helped raise this amount. We are also grateful to the Leader for its support.”

The bike challenge took place over two weeks in March and any leftover money will be sent to a school in Malawi which St Peter’s pupils have donated sport kits and uniforms to in the past.
