A FUNDRAISING campaign is being launched to keep a service for people with learning difficulties and disabilities.
Groundwork North Wales needs to raise £20,000 over the next 12 months to continue running its All Ability Cycling Service, Pedal Power, based at Alyn Waters Country Park in Wrexham.
Pedal Power needs to become self-financing over the coming years and a significant amount of money is needed each year to keep the service running.
Maintaining the fleet of 30 specialist bikes alone costs more than £5,000 each year.
Anna Pollard, marketing coordinator for Groundwork North Wales said: “We have a variety of exciting fundraising initiatives and events taking place this year and we hope people and businesses’ will support us to keep Pedal Power running.
“We are introducing a Friends of Pedal Power scheme. As well as supporting the service, friends will be entitled to receive some great benefits, such as a free safety check for their bike and newsletters about the service, plus much more.
“People can also join our 100 Club, where supporters pay just £1 a month and have the opportunity to win a cash prize every month, with 50 per cent of the proceeds going to support the Pedal Power Service.”
She added: “On Saturday, June 14 we will be running a Family Fun Day at Pedal Power with exciting family events and a raffle.
“We are also selling tickets to our Grand Prize Draw which will be drawn at an Evening of Extravagance charity event held on October 7, with wine tasting, a sumptuous cheese buffet and a luxury shopping experience.
“Pedal Power is a unique local charity and we need people to support our events and we welcome donations from individuals and businesses for our prize draw.”
The charity has also announced Assembly Member for Wrexham, Lesley Griffiths, has agreed to be patron of Pedal Power.
Ms Griffiths said: “I am extremely proud to have been nominated as patron for Pedal Power, the charity enables people with disabilities and those in poor health to enjoy physical exercise and fun through cycling.
“Pedal Power gives real choices to people who do not have the same opportunities as those in good health. I am delighted to support Pedal Power, which makes such a positive difference to the health of those in need around the Wrexham area.”
