MEMBERS of a martial arts club were left stunned when a star of one of the world’s biggest boy bands dropped in to watch their moves.
Boyzone member Shane Lynch dropped in at Connah's Quay Taekwondo Club, signing autographs and posing for photos while he watched the youngsters in action.
Chief instructor Darren Richardson revealed the 37-year-old pop idol – who achieved six UK number ones alongside Ronan Keating and the other Irish band members – has been following the fortunes of the club, where his nephew regularly attends.
Shane also took time to wish members luck with their forthcoming black belt gradings.
“It was nice of him to come - absolutely brilliant,” said Darren.
“He may be famous but he is really down to earth and was giving high-fives to the kids, which was great for them.
“I had told them someone famous would be coming and everyone just stopped when he walked in, including parents.
“We stopped the class for a few minutes so pictures could be taken with him, it was great really.
“A group of students are going for their black belts soon and Shane took time to wish them all luck which was good of him.”
Shane popped in on the club while visiting relatives in the area – including 12-year-old nephew Jake Lynch, who is a first dan black belt and has been training with the Connah’s Quay club for seven years.
Connah’s Quay Taekwondo forms part of the 250-member Deeside Taekwondo, which also holds sessions in Hawarden and Deeside Leisure Centre.
Darren, who was Flintshire Coach of the Year in 2012, said this wasn’t Shane’s first visit, with the singer having previously donated raffle prizes at Christmas, including tickets for Boyzone concerts.
Deeside Taekwondo is now starting its beginners classes and anyone interested in taking part can call on 01352 780609 or 07735 337433.
