IT might not be the most conventional way to show your love for your football club but Wrexham FC branded beach towels have become the latest must-have for droves of Reds fans.
Commercial bosses at the football club have been left dumbstruck by the popularity of the towels, which have been flying off the shelves in the club’s store.
About 1,000 of the distinctive dryers were sold in the first week on sale alone.
And now the Leader is asking readers to send in their holiday snaps capturing their Wrexham FC towels in every corner of the UK and the world.
Pictures could feature the towel by a pool abroad, being used after a sporting challenge, being unfurled in a city centre or simply shown off in a far-flung destination.
The paper will print some of the shots and our favourite will win next season’s shirt.
Entries will be accepted until the Reds’ first game at the start of next season in August.
The towels, which have not been part of the Wrexham FC merchandise for a number of years, were brought back by the club’s commercial director Steve Cook.
Mr Cook said: “It’s odd how popular the towels have been.
“I ordered these towels last year when we did the big order for the season. We got a good price per unit and the design is very good.
“We haven’t had them in the stores long and they are just flying off the shelves – with at least 10 being sold a day.
“If it keeps going like this, we’ll be through the whole order in no time.”
The towels are being sold by the club for £15.99 and are available at the club store and also from the Leader office on High Street.
Mr Cook said he has more ideas for new products in the future.
“These beach towels have been a very good product, and there’s more on the way.
“We are going to be getting things like car mats, which will be a complete first for the club.
“All of these new products are just expanding our range which can only be good news for the fans and the club.”
Anyone looking to submit a photo for the Leader competition should include themselves and the towel in the shot and enclose information about when and where the photo was taken, as well as their full name, address and age.
