A POOL tournament in memory of a young man has raised £500 for charity.
Danny Jones, 21, from Chirk, was killed with an ornamental sword on April 24 in Oswestry.
Richard Adam Reece, 19, from Oswestry, was jailed for 12 years in November after he was found guilty of manslaughter at Birmingham Crown Court.
A tribute pool tournament was held at The Stanton Inn in Chirk, hosted by the pub’s pool team, which Mr Jones, a father-of-one, supported.
Ian Jones, a team member and one of the organisers of the Danny Jones Memorial Cup, said: “The event went really well and there was a good turnout with 32 players entering. We raised £500 through the tournament and a raffle which will be donated to the Wales Air Ambulance.
“Many of us on the team know Danny well as he used to watch us play.”
The money raised included a £130 donation from The Stanton Inn landlord Mark Jones and a £50 donation from the pool team’s captain Marcel Cheetham.
The winner of the Carrs Loves Barrs sponsored tournament was Clive Holgate who beat Terry Nash in the final. The two losing semi finalists were Alan Penrose and Tom Williams.
Mr Jones added: “We are going to make this an annual event and raise money for charity every year. We would like to thank everyone who supported us.”
