THE list of roads to be resurfaced as part of a local authority’s multi-million pound programme has been announced.

Improvements to 42 roads or sections of road in Flintshire begin next month through a £1.8 million project implemented by Flintshire Council.

The programme is funded with contributions from the Welsh Government’s Highway Prudential Borrowing Initiative, with the council’s own capital resurfacing allocation to be completed during the summer.

Each road in the county was inspected by Streetscene staff to assess its condition and to ensure the roads most in need of repair receive attention immediately.

Community leaders have reacted positively to the near £2 million plan which will see Holywell receive the most attention, with six roads to be improved. Four areas of both Buckley and Connah’s Quay will be worked on as well as three in Flint.

Holywell West councillor Gareth Roberts said: “This is something that if it is not done, problems pile up.

“Fortunately, we’ve always had good standards of roads and this had to be maintained.

“I’m looking forward to this work being done.”

Buckley councillor Richard Jones registered complaints abouts the condition of Meg’s Lane in the town and said he was pleased something was being done.

“Both Meg’s Lane and Padeswood Road South are in my ward and I welcome improvements to those roads.

“It’s long overdue and this is a much better long term solution to the patching that has been done over the years.”

Connah’s Quay councillor Ian Dunbar said: “Wepre Lane is one of the busiest roads in the whole of Connah’s Quay. It is used from top to bottom, for people getting to Northop and there are potholes everywhere.

“Resurfacing will be a boost to everyone in Connah’s Quay. This is one of the best moves we’ve had to smarten up the roads in Connah’s Quay for a while.”

Resurfacing work will begin across the county next month.
