LOVE was in the air on Valentine’s Day when a man made the most romantic gesture of all, with the help of a patisserie.
Egidijus Rasinskas arranged with Caroline’s Viennese Patisserie at Central Arcade in Wrexham to make a special cake as part of a surprise marriage proposal to his girlfriend, Ieva Ataraite.
The cake was placed in the shop window so when the couple walked past on Friday at around 9.30am, Ieva saw the cake and Egidijus went down on one knee, producing a diamond ring from his pocket.
Leva instantly accepted the proposal to the delight of her new fiance and everyone in the patisserie.
An ecstatic Egidijus, 27, a butcher in Minera, said: ”I had been thinking that I wanted to propose, and about a week ago I saw the shop and got the idea.
“I was shaking with nerves but knew she would accept and it made me very, very happy.”
A delighted Ieva, 20, a factory worker, said: “I had no idea he was going to propose.
“I thought we were on our way to buy a TV but was shown the cake in the window.
“I couldn’t believe it. I thought ‘what is this?’, and that maybe it was for another person with the same name.”
The couple, who met two years ago and live in Wrexham town centre, are now planning a summertime wedding.
As well as the cake, the patisserie organised a free breakfast along with a bottle of champagne for the happy couple.
The patisserie’s owner, Steven Vale, said: “Egidijus came in on the Monday and asked if we would make the cake and put it in the window for Valentine’s Day.
“Usually we need to give the bakery a week’s notice but they said they could make it in time.
“It was quite emotional, and there was a big scream when she saw the cake, she certainly wasn’t expecting it.
“It’s the first time we’ve ever done anything like this, it was really nice and I hope we can do something similar again for others in the future.”
