STARS of the small screen are to return to the area for a charity football match.
A date has been set for the popular Soapstar Soccerstar match at the Glyndwr University Racecourse Stadium in Wrexham.
Actors including Emmerdale favourite Anthony Quinlan and his former Chester-based Hollyoaks co-star, Danny Miller, will play in the game on Saturday, May 10.
The celebrity XI will take on a team of former Wales and Wrexham FC legends, including Bryan Hughes, Mickey Thomas and Lee Jones.
The event was watched by more than 2,500 fans last year.
Glyndwr University’s sports manager, Anna Marie Brown, said: “I’m so glad Soapstar Soccerstar is back. This is an event that will only continue to grow year on year, with the additional bonus of local charities benefiting.
“We’re thrilled to again be involved and it just shows the Glyndwr University Racecourse Stadium is very much at the heart of sporting and community activity in North Wales.”
Last year the soap stars edged their sporting rivals 5-4 in a thrilling match.
Chris Parry, director of Eezy Events, the company behind the fundraising event, hopes this summer’s spectacle will be even better.
He says Nightingale House Hospice in Wrexham is one of the charities that will benefit from ticket sales, along with Once Upon a Smile, which offers respite breaks and supports families coming to terms with a bereavement.
He said: “It is fantastic for us to be able to continue our relationship with our charity partner Once Upon a Smile and is testament to the people that attended the match last year and supported our chosen charities.
“Without the fantastic support we received this opportunity wouldn’t have been possible and the fact that it’s a World Cup year will hopefully heighten the football fever leading in to the summer.”
He added: “All the ticket sales will once again go to various charities, including Nightingale House, and we hope to surpass last year’s crowd of 2,500 people.”
