A FORMER head of children’s homes has denied 39 charges of historical
John Allen, 72, was bailed by Judge Merfyn Hughes QC at Caernarfon Crown Court and there will be a review hearing next month.
Twenty nine of the charges relate to alleged indecent assaults said to have happened between 1968 and 1991.
One allegation relates to a boy aged four to five in October 1990, and another to a girl of 12 between 1980 and 1981.
Eleanor Laws QC, prosecuting, said there were 20 complainants.
A trial, which could last up to 10 weeks, is likely to be in the autumn. The venue has not yet been fixed, but the prosecution said Mold Crown Court would be more convenient for its witnesses.
Allen was arrested by officers from Operation Pallial, in which the National Crime Agency is probing allegations of historical child abuse in North Wales.
So far there have been 19 arrests but Allen is the only suspect who has been charged.
He is the former head of Bryn Alyn Community, a limited company which ran a string of residential homes.
