BUDDING young athletes were put through their paces by a Welsh champion high jumper.
Robert Mitchell, 33, who has competed in two Commonwealth Games finals, paid a visit to St Mary’s Primary School in Brymbo as part of the Sport For All scheme.
He coached pupils through exercise activities, including jumping jacks and squat thrusts.
The day of activities also raised sponsorship money to help young non-professional athletes cover their costs.
In total the energetic youngsters raised £550, some of which will also go to the school.
School secretary Vicky Williams said: “They really enjoyed it and there was a great atmosphere. Robert was brilliant and really friendly with the children.
“He gave them a talk on sport and coached them through several circuit training exercises.
“There was also a trophy given for the most money raised, won by the reception class.”
