ANGRY business owners have hit out at “absolutely terrible” flytipping behind their properties.

Waste has collected in a dirty pile just off Wrexham Street in Mold at the back of shops, food outlets and a pub.

The unsightly mess has caused consternation among business owners whose properties back on to the area.

Christine Williams, of Lucy May’s Cafe, said: “It’s absolutely terrible out there, it’s disgusting. Surely, if you’re going to dump something, you’d just put it in the bin.

“It does get cleared sometimes but then it’s just comes back the same – it’s absolutely disgusting.

“Ladies from the pub next door have cleaned it up and we’ve had a go at it, but then you hear about people urinating in it and all sorts when they’re out at night.”

Lucy Hancock, barmaid of the Red Lion Inn, said: “Everybody just seems to dump their rubbish there.

“The council don’t seem to be able to come and clean it up and the wind keeps blowing it all around. It’s been going on for a while, we’ve put all our own rubbish in the big bins outside the pub which the waste is next to. It’s just disgusting.”

In response to the frustrations, Dave Hill, Mold town centre manager, said he was unaware of the problem off Wrexham Street but pledged to have it looked in to as soon as possible.

He said: “We’ll have to look in to this, this is news to us. We do get this from time to time and we do endeavour to move it, but it is on private land which makes it more difficult.

“If it was on council land, it would be moved quicker. It is a sad state of affairs this is occurring, but it is not unusual.

“We have very good relations with the council’s Streetscene department, but it is difficult the rubbish is on private land.

“This is a sad indication of the attitudes of some people who feel they can flytip in the town.”

Mold councillor Haydn Bateman said he felt the issue of flytipping has generally been dealt with well in the town.

“We seem to be getting on top of this as flytipping is now illegal,” he said. “People shouldn’t be doing this but I don’t think there’s a real issue of consistent dumping in Mold. It’s been an ongoing issue in that particular area and I have actually cleaned it up in the past myself.”
