SHOPPERS eager to grab a January bargain this weekend might be advised to take their hard hats.

A military-grade rocket propelled grenade launcher, previously used to blow up tanks on the battlefields of Afghanistan, has been put up for sale – in Sealand.

The Hungarian weapon has been deactivated and is currently being sold online by Regal Pawn, with this piece of artillery up for grabs for £1,250,

Regal Pawn, which sells, trades and buys deactivated firearms, is no stranger to quirky items coming through its doors and has previously featured on the History Channel in a reality series about its trading of historical goods.

In September a man walked in with a plastic bag full of pieces of the Titanic, valued at more than £1 million.

But Mark Holland, from the company, said the sizable weapon has raised some eyebrows.

He said: “Somebody off the street actually brought it in.

“We get a lot of strange items in as well as people trying to bring in live, illegal weapons.

“We work closely with police to ensure all of them are declassified and dealt with safely. This particular weapon was used in Afghanistan and has been fully deactivated.”

The weapon is listed in Regal Pawn’s online catalogue as manufactured in 2011. It is described as “a very good condition Hungarian RPG-7 rocket-propelled grenade launcher deactivated to new spec”.

The listing adds the launcher comes with an optical sight, straps, cleaning rods and a deactivation certificate. The rocket missile sold alongside the launcher itself is also deactivated and recommended as a collector’s item.

Tony Pearce, former curator of the Grange Caves military museum, near Holywell, said this spec of weapon is powerful when in use.

He said: “So long as it has been deactivated, there’s nothing untoward about this being on sale.

“When these are in service, they are used to blow up tanks.

“It’s strange that such a modern piece of machinery has come over but if all the paperwork is there, it’s safe to trade.”

Rocket-propelled grenade launchers, or RPG-7s, are portable, unguided, shoulder-launched, anti-tank missile launchers.

They are described by combat experts as rugged, simple, low cost weapons and are the most widely used anti-armour weapon in the world.
