A VILLAGE post office will reopen its doors next week after eight months without a service.
The new Post Office in Brymbo is set to open its doors next Monday in a move which will ensure post office services are kept in the village.
People in Brymbo have had to travel to Southsea or Pentre Broughton for their nearest post office after the village subpostmaster retired in May, forcing the temporary closure of the High Street Post Office.
But the news that the service at the Brymbo Enterprise Centre on Blast Road will open next week has been greeted with joy by community leaders.
Cllr Paul Rogers, who represents Brymbo on Wrexham Council, said: “The decision to reopen the Post Office in Brymbo is fantastic news for the community and I’m pleased to have worked over recent months with Brymbo Enterprise Centre and Post Office Ltd to make this happen.”
Joanne Hennessey, landlord of the Y Tai pub on Railway Road, said: “It’s going to make a big difference and it will be welcomed by most of the village. We’re having to travel to Southsea or Pentre Broughton at the moment.
“It has been a bit of a pain, especially for the elderly.”
Resident Di Ashworth, 61, added: “It will be so good to have it back. It is so difficult to get to a post office, especially as many residents in Brymbo don’t have cars.
“I do a lot of work on the internet so I sometimes have to put parcels in the post and it means a longer journey. It will make a big difference.”
Following the appointment of a new subpostmaster, the new service will open at the Brymbo Enterprise Centre, a state-of-the-art community building a short distance away from the location of the previous branch.
Post Office area manager, Sarah Sampson said: “I’m delighted to announce the return of post office services to our customers in Brymbo.
“We understand how important having access to a Post Office is to residents in the area and we’re confident that this new service, hosted from an established business, with long opening hours, will make it easier for our customers to do business with us and also secure services for the future.”
Opening hours at the new facility will be between 9.30am and 5pm Monday to Friday.
Services there will include cash withdrawal services from partner banks and Post Office card accounts, access to Post Office Financial and Travel products as well as mail services.
