A WOMAN whose body was found beneath a bridge over a busy road has been named.
Sarah Maria Jones was pronounced dead at the scene under a bridge on the A483 Chirk bypass just north of the Halton roundabout last Monday.
On Friday John Gittins, coroner for North Wales (East and Central), said: “Today I have opened an inquest in to the death of Sarah Maria Jones, 48, of Glentworth Avenue, Oswestry.
“Her death was reported to me on December 30. A post-mortem carried out at Wrexham Maelor Hospital recorded a provisional cause of death as multiple major injuries.”
Mr Gittins adjourned the inquest for a final hearing, the date of which is yet to be set.
Emergency services were called to the scene at about 1pm, where they made the discovery under the busy road bridge.
The A483 was closed for about three hours.
Malcolm Powell, 68, from Gobowen, was travelling on the road moments before the incident and witnessed its aftermath.
"The 1pm news had just come on and I was heading onto the bridge when about five or six cars in front of me slammed on their brakes and stopped on the bridge,” he said. “The cars had been just abandoned and there were some council workmen who were in front of me who got out and rushed to have a look. They had slammed on as there were cones that were on the back of their vehicle that had fallen off.
"I was heading to Chester from Gobowen and it was on the opposite side. The next thing I knew police and ambulance vehicles were flying past towards the scene.”
