A MAN seen by police hitting another man while he was on the floor has been fined.
Michael David Canning, 28, of Yale Park, Wrexham, admitted using threatening or abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of or provoke unlawful violence.
Canning had been involved in a ‘skirmish’ with two other men, who he said had bumped into him on purpose as he walked home from a night out on December 6.
Matthew Ellis, prosecuting, said a mobile police patrol received a call asking for assistance with a group of people fighting on Mold Road in Wrexham.
Canning was seen to be on top of one man, who was offering no resistance, hitting him, while a third man was punching Canning.
Melissa Griffiths, defending, said: “He accepts that he was punching a male who at the time was not resisting him.”
Roy Dolan, chairman of the magistrates bench, said they took into account that Canning had not been in trouble for “five or six years”.
He fined Canning £200 and ordered him to pay a £20 victim surcharge, with £80 costs.
