LENGTHY delays were caused during rush hour yesterday after a road under a bridge was closed due to flooding.
Stansty Bridge in Rhosddu was closed off after heavy rain and gales hit Wrexham on Wednesday night.
The bridge remained closed until yesterday afternoon, causing delays for drivers around Mold Road.
Some drivers reported that it took them over half an hour to get from the Mold Road roundabout off the A483 into the town centre.
Colin Bairstowe, who works in Wrexham town centre, said: “It took me over 40 minutes to get from the sliproad on the A483 to the Grovesnor Road.
“The traffic was horrendous and it was total gridlock at the Mold Road roundabout with traffic struggling to get on to the roundabout.
“Drivers were getting quite angry and they were beeping their horns, but really no one could move.
“Fortunately I left early and just managed to make it to work on time.”
Other parts of the county saw roads turn to rivers during Wednesday night’s heavy rain, with the road under the railway bridge at Cefn y Bedd about six inches underwater at around 7pm.
