A CHURCH which has been transformed into a community facility hosted a Christmas fair to raise cash for a hospital bereavement suite.
The event at St Margaret’s Church in Wrexham, raised £1,400 for SANDS – a stillbirth and neonatal charity helping fund the bereavement suite.
The church played host to more than 30 stalls during the festive fundraising event.
It is the first time members of the community have used St Margaret’s since its £100,000 refurbishment to provide a new kitchen and seating, audio-visual equipment and wireless internet. Improvements have been made to the heating and insulation and there is better access for disabled people.
The work was completed earlier this year and made possible thanks to a grant from WREN – a not for profit business that awards grants to community projects – and other donations.
Rebecca Roberts, from SANDS, said: “The venue of St Margaret’s has been great, it is really big and with so much character.
“I would just like to thank everyone who has helped, including the staff at the church who made the event a success.”
The vicar of St Margaret’s, the Rev Dr Richard Hainsworth, said: “We have been working hard as a church over a number of years to raise funds to enable the church building to be used all through the week by the community.
“We saw one of the fruits of that work and it was wonderful to see the church building being used in a creative way.”
