TRIBUTES have been paid to a popular quiz league stalwart.
Friends of Mold and District Leader Quiz League chairman Colby Bunting have paid their respects after the long serving quiz organiser died last week.
Mr Bunting, 79, of West View, Mold, died on Sunday, December 8 at Wrexham Maelor hospital after suffering a heart attack.
Mold town councillor Bryan Grew, who is secretary of the League, was a friend of Mr Bunting and said his weekends would not be the same without seeing his friend at the quiz.
He said: “Colby was involved with the quiz league in various roles since its inception in 1974 and was our current chairman.
“He was not just the man who prepared the papers, handed them out, took and collected the results and passed them on to the papers, he was a friend who will be sorely missed by us all.
“Everybody liked him, he was a very close friend to us and I used to see him quite often.”
Cllr Grew added he was shocked when he heard the news of his friend’s death.
He said: “I was quite taken aback when his wife rang me.
“Colby was a true son of Mold, he was just a really nice chap. We had been discussing planning his 80th birthday party in February.
“Colby was a really genuine guy who would do anything for you if you needed it. Friday nights won’t be the same and finals night will never be the same again.”
The Mold and District Leader Quiz League has been suspended until the New Year as a mark of respect to Mr Bunting.
