THE directors of a social enterprise are turning to businesses to help realise their dreams for a community.

Us UnLtd was set up by young volunteers who are involved in a project to restore a 16th century courthouse in Flint.

Renovation of the Clwyd Alyn Housing Association-owned building, part of the Pennaf Housing Group, is costing more than £450,000.

Specialist architects and conservation experts having been engaged and a film of the project is planned.

Now after failing to gain lottery funding the young directors are turning to their community to help complete the work.

They hope businesses and tradesmen will invest or lend a hand.

Development officer Chris Price said: “This is a fantastic building with a fantastic history and we want it to provide opportunities for young people as well as become a community hub for Flint.

“We are hoping businesses in the town might be able to make a contribution and that tradesmen can help complete the interior alongside young volunteers keen to learn new skills.”

Any profit from the scheme will be ploughed back into the social enterprise, which aims to help young people find jobs and training by providing access to digital software and enhancing their skills to help them develop new careers.

Rooms in the Church Street building will also provide meeting places for community groups and a café will also be included, selling locally sourced food.

And Us UnLtd plans to make the film in the hope of further raising the profile of the venture.

Us UnLtd director Shaneice Roberts, 19, said: “To miss out on lottery funding was devastating so now we need some community spirit to help complete the project.

“We have been doing it since 2010 and we have learned so many skills during that time that we really want to see it finished and become a hub for the community.

“The aim of the film is to show what we have done and what we want to achieve and ask businesses and the community to help us get there.”

Any businesses, tradesmen or residents who think they can help via donations or hands-on assistance can contact Us UnLtd through its website at www.usunltd.co.uk.
