FATHER and son team successfully completed a marathon together.
North Wales Crusaders’ prop forward Jonny Walker completed the York Marathon in aid of Sheffield children’s hospice Bluebell Wood.
The 27-year-old was joined by his dad, Jon Snr, as they tackled the 26.2 mile course.
Together they have raised close to £1,000 for the children’s charity.
The rugby league prop forward completed the course in just over five hours and declared it was “the toughest thing I’ve ever done”.
Jon Snr, 46, recently completed an ironman competition and signed both himself and his son up for marathon a matter of months ago.
Jonny Jnr, a prop who weighs in at 114kg and was part of the Cursaders’ Championship One title-winning in 2013, explained how the Bluebell Wood cause is one that is very close to their heart.
“One of our close friends has a daughter who is battling through illness. At times, it has been touch and go – so it is quite fitting that the funds raised from the run will go towards the children’s hospice,” he said.
Jonny’s partner Amy, who went up to York to cheer both runners on, said she “couldn’t be prouder” of the pair when they crossed the line.
